Belfast artist Kate Reid has lived on the north coast for the past 30 years. Kate specialized in batik and silk painting for the early part of her career and progressed to painting in acrylics and oils.

Kate is inspired by the beauty of the earth, the sea and the nature of the elements. As an artist she conveys a powerful connection with the earth and the ever changing landscape, capturing the transient nature of the coastline in the forms and colours of her work

Kate attended the foundation course at the Polytechnic in Jordanstown in the late 70’s and has since worked on her own. She took to purely painting around 2006, most of the work is knife worked acrylic on paper. Kate had her first exhibition in September 2014, although has sold privately and produced commissions for batiks.

“…I do think that working with batik and having to apply the highlights first has helped me in my interpretations and that I prefer to work with a knife because although I have a picture in my mind when I start to paint, I am working from memory and like the informality – if that is the right
way to describe it – of the way the paint behaves and can be manipulated, applied and scraped off etc…”

Shelving is Kate’s most popular limited edition and North Coast Grounded the most popular open edition.
